Summary
For this freelance job, I designed layouts for both print and digital issues of Austin Woman Magazine.
We were aiming for an elevated style, using new fonts and brand colors for the first time.
In addition to article layouts, six spreads were dedicated to listicles showcasing different types of makers and nine pages were dedicated to “Roll Call” layouts, showcasing local women.
Challenge & Discovery
The greatest challenge for this work was creating a grid system from scratch. I made choices for leading, columns, etc.
Talk about how the first layout became the guidance.
Show what wasn’t working in roll call before.

Process
Build a haphazard and chaotic moodboard to show what I was provided. Photos. Emails. Copy I was provided.
Talk about how I was handed assets but also found some assets.
To show leading choices, columns, etc., show screenshots to show choices that I made. Maybe they are in black and white and the column lines or whatever or pink. Show how the choices I made were impacted by the choices that weren’t working. Show how there was a lack of grid before and now there is one.

Reflection
They are still using the choices that I made. I was on the ground making meaningful design impact and its actually something they are using.
